New skills

The other day talking to my sister about jobs I recommended her to take an online course about drawing and creativity. I told her that drawing was an especially useful skill to have in life.

That made me think about University and what I learned there, I thought about how the world is now, full of possibilities and if it has any sense to go to the University to learn creative skills nowadays.

That kept me thinking about what important skills would I have told my former self to learn instead of spending all that time at University. Because yes, you learn a lot of stuff but not all of it is helpful.

So, my conclusion is:

- Practice drawing as much as you can. It does not matter if you are not Leonardo da Vinci. The skill of drawing is useful even if you can only draw in a quite simple style. You can apply it to many areas in art and life.

- Learn and practice lettering and calligraphy.  Having the skill of lettering and calligraphy even if you are not the best and just make it in your own style will open many doors for you. You will be able to incorporate it to your art, make greeting cards, fonts, teach others…

- Learn how to use any drawing software. It depends on what you want to do with it but just knowing how to use any drawing software will be super useful. Nowadays a lot of people use different apps in their phones but knowing how to use Illustrator, Photoshop, or any program like that is a resource that will let you do things that you cannot do with a phone app.
